Tips and Tricks: Styling Kits for Photographers
If you have ever photographed a wedding with me, you know that I absolutely LOVE detail shots! I come fully prepared for detail shots because a lot of the time, getting ready locations aren’t the prettiest. If they are, well that’s just a bonus! Detail shots are the first thing I do on a wedding day and they get me excited about the rest of the day. I have started carrying a rolling tote full of supplies to help style detail shots. I get questions from other photographers quite often about what is included in my styling kit, so I figured it was time to write a blog post about it!
My favorite things in my styling kit include:
scrapbook paper
ribbon
ring box
wooden spools
buttons
fabric
metal tray
wood hanger
stamps
poster putty
artificial florals
These are just a few of my favorite items in my styling kit. My most used items on this list are scrapbook paper, ribbon, ring boxes, wooden spools, and wood hangers. I use these at just about every wedding. One thing that may seem a little odd for me to include is poster putty. Poster putty is a great tool to have in your kit. It is great for ring shots like this one!
I make sure that all of my brides and grooms know that details will be done first thing during the day and to have everything important together in one spot. This usually includes shoes, rings, invitations (always ask for this ahead of time), jewelry, and veils. A few other things that I bring along with me to help make my job easier is a reflector and video light. These work wonders for lighting up details in dark spaces!
