Caleb and Lisa’s Backyard Wedding in Michigan

We all know that COVID-19 caused lots of problems throughout the world. Not only in the medical field, but it also changed plans for a lot of people planning their weddings. Caleb and Lisa were just one of the many couples who encountered problems due to COVID-19. Thankfully, these two took it in stride and made the best of a difficult situation.

On May 2nd, Caleb and Lisa tied the knot in Caleb’s parent’s backyard in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. They had the perfect set up in the backyard for a simple, yet beautiful ceremony. The day started like any other wedding with Lisa surrounded by her bridesmaids while they prepared for the day ahead of them. Meanwhile, Caleb was downstairs getting ready and laughing with his groomsmen.

While the two were getting ready, there was a bustle of excitement downstairs preparing for the ceremony and the cookout to follow. Chairs were lined up in the backyard for the ceremony while food was laid out for the celebration to follow.

Before long, the ceremony was ready to begin.

Their immediate families and bridal party (well most of the bridal party) filed into their seats to watch Caleb and Lisa become husband and wife. Their grandparents parked on the edge of the property and brought a chair to sit in so they were far enough away to stay safe.

Soon, Caleb was standing at the front of the aisle with the officiant, waiting for Lisa to come through the door and walk down the aisle.

Lisa opted not to wear her original wedding dress for their official ceremony. Instead, she wore a beautiful and stylish white jumpsuit from Rent The Runway. A lot of brides are opting to do this so that their postponed date still feels special. I think it is an awesome option and allows you to wear a more casual option to match the setting.

Lisa soon walked out the doors and down the aisle so they could start their lives as one. They had a beautiful ceremony surrounded by their family and close friends. Things didn’t go as planned due to COVID-19.

This was still a beautiful start to their marriage.

Once family formals were finished, the three of us got into their car and headed to the only park we knew that was open nearby for photos. We headed to Stoneco Park in Bedford for their portraits. When we arrived there, we discovered just how windy it was that day. This also caused some issues, but nothing we couldn’t handle.

When we arrived back at the house, it was time for the cookout. We all gathered at the tables in their yard joking and laughing about how crazy life has been in 2020. At 4pm though, we got a reminder of just how we all have adapted to it.

At 4pm, we all lined up at the edge of the driveway, not knowing what to expect.

The bridesmaids had planned something special, but we could only speculate what would come. Before long, a parade of cars came rolling down the street, honking their horns, and carrying signs and gifts. This was a group of people who they would have loved to have been at their ceremony, but due to restrictions from COVID-19, it just wasn’t possible.

Even though things have been causing changes due to the coronavirus, we are making the best of it. Not only did Caleb and Lisa get to celebrate on May 2nd, they will also get to celebrate their marriage at their next ceremony and reception!
