A Groom's Guide: 11 Tasks Every Groom Should Complete For The Week

Traditionally, the Groom has not been in charge of the wedding preparation and it's normally the bride who is more concerned and involved in the outcome of the event. The groom's only duty, as the adage goes, is to be on time. Although this is significant, the grooms of the past were often responsible for more than just being on time.

The modern groom still needs to be at least partly involved in the preparation of the big day. Although you may not be concerned about them, there are activities that you are able and required to complete before the wedding day, on the big day, and afterward.

Let's take a closer look at them with this detailed guide!

1 | Get Ready To Suit Yourself

Pick up the suit and try it on. Men enjoy dressing up as much as women do.  A week before the wedding, the groom should choose what he wants to wear. The bride may suggest things for suit color and design, but the final decision will be yours. This gives you plenty of time to inspect everything to see if anything needs to be repaired, ensuring that everything is good for your wedding. Have your suit ironed and pressed as well.

2 | Get Ready All Way Down To Your Toes

Selecting the ideal pair of footwear, and if you want to look your suave best on your wedding day, start planning a week ahead of time by considering the various types of footwear you should wear on your walk down the aisle. If you're buying new shoes, put them on and break them in.

3 | Get Ready To Relax

Prepare for your honeymoon by packing your bags, prepare your travel documents - don't forget your passport if you're leaving the country and confirming your travel arrangements, check your honeymoon reservations!

4 | Get Ready To The First Night

Pack bags for the wedding night, ensuring that everything is packed and full. Don't forget to carry things like;

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

  • Mouthwash and Floss

  • Face wash & moisturizer

  • Cologne

  • Razor and Deodorant

  • Over-the-counter meds

  • Hairbrush and Hand sanitizer

  • Shampoo & conditioner

  • Body wash and Styling products

  • Robe and Pajama set

5 | Get All Together

Organize any additional clothing you'll need, such as an undershirt, socks, cufflinks, tie, and an extra white shirt, in addition to the suit.

6 | Get The Soldiers Together

This may be as easy as double-checking that the groomsmen already have a suitable suit, but it's still a task. Check on the groomsmen to see if they've all tried on their suits (groomsmen suits that don't fit have happened before). You, as the groom, will also be in charge of ensuring that the entourage is properly attired and accessorized.

7 | Get A Little Something

Surprise your sweetheart with a handwritten note or thoughtful gift on the morning of the wedding. This will help to set the atmosphere for the special day. Choose a little something for her a week before your special big day.

8 | Get Yourself Well

When the big day comes, make sure you're well-rested. There will be no late-night movies, and the schedule will be inconsistent. A safe and balanced diet of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meat is recommended, as well as a minimum of seven to nine hours of sleep every night. Any groom should do this as part of his pre-wedding preparations.

Drink plenty of water, and if you smoke, consider quitting for a while or keeping your smoking to a minimum before your wedding. All of this will contribute to your overall aura on your big day.

9 | Work On Your Vow

Since vows are so intimate, make the wedding vows extra special by writing them down a week before the ceremony. Practice your vows if you haven't already, practice makes perfect! But, in any case, keep your written vows in a pocket in case your mind goes blank on the big day.

10 | Stay Connected

Planning a wedding can seem daunting with so many tasks to complete and information to schedule. The task becomes more pleasant and less stressful if you allow yourself enough time to prepare and sort the tasks using a wedding-planning checklist and wedding timeline. Know your timeline so you don’t stress out your bride and stay connected until your wedding day.

11 | Last-Minute Errands

The feeling of being just a week away is a stage most couples never imagined would come around after days, months, or even years of planning the most amazing wedding. There are just a few last-minute wedding tasks to complete the week before your wedding, so create a list to make sure you don't miss something and help with any last-minute errands.

Take Pleasure In Savoring The Moment

Wedding preparation is work that should be shared between two people. While many grooms want to be hands-on, many brides find it difficult to let go and share the burden. Then some grooms are less concerned with the finer points of the wedding and can assign all of the work to their partners. Brides, on the other hand, do not have to.

A wedding is about two people coming together, no matter what kind of couple you are or what roles you play, so it's important that both of you are involved from the outset.

Preparing for one of life's most difficult days can also be one of life's most fun and unforgettable moments. In the blink of an eye, the wedding day will be over.

Man, savor these moments!
