A Lovely Engagement Session: Ben and Lauren at the Beautiful Rosy Mound Natural Area
I've known Ben since high school because we attended the same church and youth group. Ben and Lauren live in the Kalamazoo area of Michigan, but they agreed to meet me in Grand Haven for their engagement session because I would be in the area for Emily and Corbin's session.
They had planned to marry on March 20, 2021, but due to the pandemic, they had to postpone their wedding by a year. Because both of their parents were getting married on the same weekend, they thought it would be ideal for them as well. We went to Rosy Mound Natural Area for their engagement session and hiked the sand dunes as well as the wooded trails. It was wonderful to see them and catch up after having parted ways due to attending college in different states.
The Natural Scenery Session
Although Grand Haven and Kalamazoo are 1 hour 22 minutes apart, the couple decided to have their engagement session in Grand Haven. The engagement session took place at Rosy Mound Natural Area on November 19, 2020.
Rosy Mound Natural Area is a Great Lakes dune system, with high wooded dunes, open dunes, and a sandy beach which is popular to visit. The hike from the parking area to the Lake Michigan shoreline contains 1,000 feet of stair climbing up and down dunes as well as scenic views. Near the beach, there is a unique shade canopy, a dune boardwalk trail, and pit toilets.
Most couples and photographers consider this park to be one of their favorites. The beach is a bit of a hike, but it's well worth it. The reward is a stunning untouched beach, tall grassy dunes, and the beautiful Lake Michigan, which fills visitors' hearts with joy.
Ben and Lauren were successful! They simply let my camera do its thing while they enjoyed each other's company. What a beautiful sight to see: two people in love savoring the moment. These two are wonderful people, and I had a great time photographing their simple and sweet relationship. With its warm, sunny fields and beautiful beach, this place is ideal for an engagement session.
Rosy Mound has a short hike before reaching the beach, so there are many different backdrops to choose from! Ben and Lauren had a pose that worked best when the sun was shining, and I never passed up the chance to photograph it. Despite the glare of the sun, they were overjoyed to have their photos taken on the trails, stairs, and beach. Their happiness was unwavering.
