FIVE Tips for Wedding Dress Shopping

Don't just hit the shops and wait for the dress to fall into your lap if you want your wedding dress shopping to be fun, simple, and painless. Make a Plan! The idea of wedding dress shopping is exciting and full of dreams. There's no such thing as too early to start looking, but there's a stage where it's too late, so better plan your wedding dress shopping while times allow you to run out of pressure. Start trying stuff 10 to 12 months before your wedding date so you can place your order, usually the eight-month deadline most boutiques need. Browse wedding gowns by a cut to get ideas to see what actual brides wore.

You may be unsure of how much time and effort it takes to find the dress of your dreams. Before you go out and try on any dress you can find, here are some wedding tips to help you plan for wedding dress shopping and make it the most enjoyable experience possible.

1.  Be Open

Go in with an open mind, that is the first tip because you never know what you want when you get there. Positivity and insight are the best qualities you can add to your wedding gown shopping experience. You've never dressed in a wedding gown before. So, bring your necessities, but be open to other ideas as well. Keeping an open mind will help everyone enjoy the appointment.  Also, it's so beneficial to understand what you like, to limit the dress you pulled at your clothing appointment. Don't be afraid to try something out of the ordinary, it might be exciting and maybe it's the one that fits you perfectly. Remember, you're going to wear it for a long day, you want to be gorgeous, but you also need to be comfortable.

2.  Budget Plan.

You don't want to fall in love with a dress that's way out of your price point, get your budget ready. This will not only help you narrow down your options but will also help you refine your preferences while you shop for a dress. Remember the expense of alterations, veils, shoes, and accessories when deciding on a budget for your dress. Many brides-to-be fail to calculate the expense of these extras in their budgets, leading them to surpass their spending limit.

3.  Undergarments.

Ladies wearing undergarments every day and the style of these underwear changes depending on the activity, occasion, and outer clothing. Underwear, bras, warm swimsuits, and lingerie are some of the undergarments that can be found in a typical wardrobe. The right undergarments will make all the difference between a well-fitting wedding gown and one that suits perfectly. If you already have the undergarments you'll be wearing on your special day, it's better to wear them or at least bring them with you to the appointment.

  • Wear nude undergarments- you don’t want to be distracted by crazy colored or patterned underwear. Nude-colored panties are recommended by most bridal experts.

  • Wear a strapless bra- no need to get distracted by bra straps, using a strapless or convertible bra that fits well under your dress to provide supportive support during the day is a smart idea.

4.  Shopping Crew.

Have your favorite people with you, your shopping buddies or shopping crew.  They're going, to be honest, and let you choose what you feel most confident about. Plus, you want to share these special moments with them! Limit the group to two or three people whose views you value the most. Expect two to five fittings at each store you choose to visit. If you're allowed, take a camera and have your shopping crew take pictures of you in every dress you love. When you go for another appointment, you'll have a quick list to compare which one is better.

5.  Timeframe.

Know your timeline; if you don't have much time until your wedding, you'll most likely have to buy a dress off the rack. Don't be afraid to inquire about the dress-ordering timeline. Don't be shy to talk to your seamstress. Often these dresses need some kind of alteration. Just because a seamstress has a lot more experience and comes highly recommended, it doesn't always mean that she's perfect. Make sure you approach this with a positive attitude; wedding dress shopping can and should be enjoyable. Know that adjustments can be made, so leave space in your budget for them. Given enough time for your final fitting before your wedding so that you can make adjustments if anything isn't quite right.
